Confessions of a Small Business Owner

July 24, 2024

Hello, hello, hello. Welcome back!!!!

How are you? How’s your spirit feeling? How’s business?

Just another week of pivoting.

I wanted to start this blog with an affirmation:

“No matter what the economy is doing I will do everything in my power for my business to thrive.”

Say it, mean it, and feel it. I’ve talked about the economy before and how some of us are struggling in this current economy. We have to shift our mindset to thrive. The economy may not be doing well but that doesn’t mean your company has to suffer. You know Coca-Cola was invented during the Great Depression.

This week I wanted to talk about writing down your goals, making a to-do list. It can be something you write every morning, like today I will do this. Or it could be weekly, monthly, yearly. But writing your goals is important. And be thorough. So not just your goals but also, focus on how you will accomplish time, what task will you do to reach those goals.

Your goal could be to gain 10K followers in a month. What task will you do to do that? You’re definitely going to have to do some work and some research. This week I started writing down my daily goals in a daily checklist. At the end of each day I will look at that list, see what I accomplished, and if I didn’t accomplish everything, why not? Was I distracted? What distracted me? Did I do my deep work? (Check out Deep Work by Cal Newport)

Speaking of 10K followers in a month. Don’t buy followers. Why would you do that? It’s purely for vanity. It took me two years to gain 1K followers. Now, everyone is different, everyone’s journey is different so for some it may take a week to gain 1K whereas others may take two years and that’s okay. Be on your own path. Enjoy your process. Don’t compare yourself to anyone but you. With that said, I recently have been “losing” followers. It’s really never a loss though, you know. I am a huge believer in followers do not equate to sales. Because even though I have less followers my sales increased last week. Amen to that!! This week, business has been a little slower, actually a lot slower, so I’m using this time to focus on a few other projects. Maybe that is God’s way of telling me to shift focus. I talked about how things line up as they should on another video on my channel called Reflections.

Just know as a small business owner you are brave. It takes a lot of courage and bravery to put yourself out there and do something against the norm. Working a 9 to 5 is easy. And maybe not easy in the sense of labor/brain power but in the sense that most people can do it. To be honest, I think about it daily. But I wonder if I would be failing myself for giving up on full time entrepreneurship.

Sending you all of the abundance.

Make sure you're making your success (whatever that looks like for you) a priority.

XOXO
