skyline

I've been doing skyline for about 10 years now. The reason I love Skyline is because of its proximity to my house. I live about seven minutes away. So it’s a great quick hike option. I also like it because there are usually a lot a people and I often hike alone (sometimes you gotta do things alone) so I like that I see others just in case there's an emergency. FYI, in the summer months there are less people. Also, the higher up you get, the less people.

During the summer, I usually start my hiking Skyline at 545am just because it gets hot but also because the sun rises at around 530am. During the winter, I still arrive early, at around 600am. It is cold brrrrr, so be prepared.

I have a love/hate relationship with this trail. I like that its close by but every time I’m come down from the KSOX Doppler Weather Radar (at the top of the trail) I always think “why the hell am I do this”, especially in those summer months. This trail always kicks my butt.

The KSOX Doppler Weather Radar is located at top of Skyline. You can also take Blackstar Canyon in Orange County to reach the doppler.

Skyline is a little more advanced for casual hikers but you don’t have to go to the doppler if you want to take a quick casual hike.

Where to park: Street parking on Foothill. The earlier you arrive the more/better parking options. (Don’t leave valuables in the car!!!)

How to get to trail head: Skyline Drive Trailhead, Corona, CA in your map

Approximate time/distance: 6 hours/12 miles

Make sure you take lots of water and remember, it’s not a sprint, its a marathon.

Happy Hiking.
