Confessions of a Small Business Owner
This Week on “Confessions of a small business owner”
Week of april 15, 2024
Welcome back to another week of Confessions. Over the weekend I hit 12K followers on Instagram!!! This is your reminder to celebrate all of your wins. It’s taken 2.5 years to go from 10K to 12K. This is a reminder to not give up and to not compare your journey to anyone else’s. Be in competition with yourself. Are you better than yesterday? One question concerning this milestone is, how are you influenced by social media? How much does it affect you as a business owner? How much do you let follower numbers and like influence you? I’m not going to sit up here and act like it doesn’t effect me, but I always bring it back to followers and likes don’t equal sales.
One thing about small business is we have to handle things as they come and do certain things no matter where we are. For example, my last Confessions video was recorded at a friend’s house. Why? Because I upload on Sunday!!!
As a small business owner, how do you handle unsolicited advice from non-business owners? Advice is all well and good, especially from a loyal consumer but what about advice on running your business? What gives that person the experience and knowledge to tell you how to do things?
This is your reminder, just because you run a small business doesn’t mean EVERYONE CAN HAVE ACCESS TO YOU AT ALL TIMES. Repeat after me, I run my business, my business doesn’t run me. This thought came to me this week as I had another dealing with my customer from last week who wanted her order shipped quickly. She called me on IG. Just because I have a business page, and you can make calls, it doesn't mean you have to answer them. Everyone doesn’t get access to you. That’s why you have communication avenues in place.
The last days of this week I took a much needed social media sabbatical. It gave me an opportunity to think about my content. I need to get more intentional about my post/my marketing.
